Health and Safety courses

Part of your apprenticeship with EarnLearn includes booking specialist courses through external training providers. This course cost is covered by EarnLearn if it is booked within the first three months after you sign up to the apprenticeship. However, if you are needing to re-sit these courses due to non-completion, failure, or non-attendance, or you need to complete a refresher course, you will need to pay for this yourself.

What you need to do

  1. Check your Welcome Email from EarnLearn. This will tell you what courses you need to book.
  2. Find your chosen training provider from the listed providers below and read the instructions for how to book.
  3. Click the link if given or call to book your course.
  4. If calling, make sure you tell them you are an EarnLearn apprentice. This means that EarnLearn is billed for your course.
  5. Make sure you enter your National Student Number (NSN) correctly, so your credits get loaded to your NZQA record.
  6. If you don’t attend a course you have booked, you will pay for the next one.

First Aid

Trade qualifications that require the completion of this course:  Plumbing, Gasfitting & Drainlaying; Electrical; and Scaffolding (Level 4 Apprenticeship only)

If you have a current first aid certificate and the units are listed on your NZQA Record of Learning you are not required to do this course again.

If you have a current first aid certificate for 6401 and 6402 only and your programme also requires 6400, you will need to talk to the first aid provider about how to bridge this gap.

If your certificate is not current (more than 2 years old) you will need to do the full course again and not just a refresher course.

Be aware that your First Aid Certificate is valid for 2 years, after which time you should attend a refresher course.  Your employer will decide if they want you to do the First Aid refresher course or not.  EarnLearn does not cover the cost of this so either you or your employer will need to pay.

We recommend that apprentices complete the First Aid training before doing the Height Safety and Confined Spaces courses.

Please do the First Aid course within the first three months of your apprenticeship.

Book your First Aid training with one of the providers listed below.

The course you will book depends on the programme you are doing:

ElectricalChoose an Essential First Aid course (unit standards 6401 and 6402)
