New Zealand Certificate in Security (Foundation) (Level 3)

The purpose of this qualification is to provide the security sector with individuals who have obtained the fundamental knowledge and skills required to work as a security officer.

This qualification is suitable for individuals who want to operate as a security officer in the security industry or for individuals already operating in the security industry who would like to gain recognition for current experience.

Learners will be capable of carrying out a broad range of tasks under limited supervision and will demonstrate transferable skills in a security work environment.

New Zealand Certificate in Security (Intermediate) (Level 4)

The purpose of this qualification is to provide New Zealand with individuals who have obtained an intermediate level of operational and technical skills, experience, knowledge and performance for the security sector.

The qualification is suitable for people who intend to operate in higher level roles within the security sector.

Graduates will be capable of carrying out security work under minimal supervision in the security environment.

Conflict Management (CoA)

Managing conflict is a key skill for those in the security industry. There are mandatory training requirements to ensure all individuals are armed with the knowledge and skills to manage conflict situations.

The training applies to both Licence and Certificate of Approval holders. Crowd controllers, crowd controller employees, property guards, property guard employees, personal guards and personal guard employees.

There are three NZQA unit standards that need to be achieved:

  • US27364 – Demonstrate knowledge of the security industry in the pre-employment context
  • US27360 – Describe conflict management in a security context
  • US27361 – Manage conflict situations in a security context
